Blog Introductory Assignment

Part 1 summary
I learned that globalization is a trend toward greater interconnectedness and interdependence of the world and I also learned the 8 types of globalization (geographical, ecological, cultural, financial, economic, political, technological and sociological).

Types of globalizations:
1-      Geographical: bordless would.
2-      Ecological: single ecosystem.
3-      Cultural: TV, religion or products.
4-      Financial: oil prices and stock markets.
5-      Economic: multinational companies or trade.
6-      Political: united Nations.
7-      Technological: internet.
8-      Sociological: common attitude, human right.

Globalization refers to:
-          Close relationship between countries.
-          Connection between economic, political and social system across the global.
-          Blurring of geographic boundaries.
-          Instant exchange of communication, information, good and services.
-          Increased social relations around the world.

Terms:
-          Economic globalization: the process of expanding world trading networks.
-          Outsources: one company hiring another company to fulfill certain tasks in production.
-          CCIC: Canadian Council for International Co-operation.
-          Social globalization: the process by which people’s lifestyles spread over global networks.
-          Political globalization: the process by which political decisions and actions are becoming increasingly international.
-           NAFTA: North American Free Trade Agreement.

 Cultural contact

Beothuk
The Beothuk were hunters and gatherers who once lived throughout much of what is now the Island of Newfoundland. The relied on marine resources for their survival. Fish and seabirds are important part of their diet. Contact between the Beothuk and the Europeans were limited. Each side had things the other side wanted. The Beothuk wanted the iron and copper pots, knives, and utensils the Europeans had. The Europeans wanted the valuable animal furs the Beothuk hunted and trapped. As more Europeans arrived, the Europeans moved further into Beothuk territory. This made it harder for the Beothuk to harvest their traditional food supplies along the coast. At the same time, the Mi`kmaq began hunting and fishing in southern parts of the island, while the Inuit embarked on seal-hunting expeditions in the north. As the Europeans continued to take over more land, the Beothuk faced growing hunger and starvation so the Beothuk raided the Europeans camps for supplies. Eventually starvation, use of weapons, diseases, and a decline in natural resources let to the death of almost all the Beothuk. By 1829 there were no Beothuk left, (annihilated).

Hunters of the plains
People of the plains had built a lifestyle around the vast herds of buffalo that roamed the prairies. The buffalo was their single most important resources. They used all parts of the animal- for food, clothing, shelter, and tools. Nothing was wasted. The plains hunted and trapped furs to trade with the Europeans for pots, tools and weapons, including firearms. Guns meant more hunting and it also meant the Europeans could kill buffalos that were coming into their land. With no more buffalos, traditional ways of living for the plains people were not possible.

Six nation confederacy
(Iroquois) nations formed the six Nations confederacy many centuries ago. These nations co-operated with one another to form a democracy based on an unwritten constitution known as the great law of peace. When they met Europeans they taught them the ideas of equality, freedom of speech and rights of individuals.

The most interesting thing I learned is that chocolate, flowers and diamonds comes from Africa and they are a really hard thing to find, and u get in a lot of dangers to get them. It’s interesting because it’s something new to learn and i never thought it’s that hard to get flowers or chocolate.
I have experienced globalization in my life recently by wearing a shirt that is made in US which is economical globalization and I also used internet which is technological and sociological globalizations.

Part 2 reflection
I have completed all the assignments, but I handed in one late because I wasn’t in class on the day it was due on.
What I understand very well is technological, economical, social, and cultural globalization. But I’m having some difficulties understanding geographical, ecological, political, and financial globalizations.   And I also don’t have the full understanding of six nations confederacy.
My first goal is to try finishing my work in class and not having it as a home work. And my second goal is to go on D2L everyday and see what I have for home work or what I missed.
