Unit 1: Blog Entry

Part A: Reflection
In this unit I learned that the CRTC (Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission) regulates and supervises all aspects of Canadian broadcasting.
I found it really interesting that in bill 101 all laws were in french, french was the only language of the province and all signs are in french only.
I can connect what i have learned in class to identity, because identity is the values and characteristics people use to define themselves as individuals or as a group or the identity of people who speak the same language. I learned all the three types of identity (individual identity, linguistic identity and collective identity
One concept that I am still having difficulty with is that there are a lot of key words which make it harder the meaning of each word.
One skill or learning strategy I found helpful was word wheel. If I was to teach someone how to use this I would tell them to first write all the words in the middle of the circle then take one word that u understand the most and put it in the first top circle next take another word that have something similar to the first word finally compare the two words to each other. This will help them learn/remember how words are connected to each other.

Part B: Economic Globalization

outsourcing is when one company hiring another to fulfill certain tasks in production.
outsourcing: obtain goods and services from an outside supplier, many companies outsource and hire consultants in order to maintain a flexible workforce.

Transnational companies do this to reduce coasts and taxes.
Advantages of outsourcing are increase speed to market, focus on core activities, cost and efficiency savings, reduced overhead, operational control, staffing flexibility, risk management and develop internal staff. Disadvantages of outsourcing are loss of managerial control, hidden costs, quality problems and tied to the financial well-being of another country.

Part C: Globalization and Identity

Paragraph 1:
the statement saying that in Quebec they don't need Bill 101 or the government controlling the laws to protect the french language and the francophone, and it also saying that they speak french in Quebec and as long as they keep on speaking french and passing it to the next generation, french will be spoken for a long time.
The charter of the french language (Bill 101) is a law in the province of Quebec in Canada defining french, the language of the majority of the population, as the only official language of Quebec. Quebecers were concerned about protecting french in province.

Paragraph 2:
Arguments in favor with Bill 101:
-to protect the french language.
-being bilingual can benefit immigrants.
-preserving linguistic identity.
Arguments against Bill 101:
-immigrants must go to french schools.
-all laws are in french.
-french is the only language of the province.
-restricts others rights to choose.
-could result in loos of language.
-prevent Anglophone culture in Quebec.

Paragraph 3:
i agree with the statement, i think that government should not get involved.
